Indian Motorcycle culture by deVere India

No matter what country you are in, there will be a motorcycle scene and they all hold gatherings and rides for their members. There is no motorcycle scene growing faster than in India. One of the largest in India is the Royal Knights Royal Enfield Club from Bangalore. deVere India takes a deeper look at the motorcycle culture in India and the Royal Knights club.

Founded in 2006 by Royal Enfield fan Debraj Banerjee, it consisted originally of just him and his friend. Now in 2016, the Royal Enfield club has over 800 members. Holding rides frequently around the roads of Bangalore, this welcoming and friendly bikers group often ride over 500 miles in one meeting. The group believe that riding in numbers promotes safety on the roads as well as imposing strict rules on helmets and drink driving.

Niveditha Jain, of the Royal Knights club stated that “it has made it mandatory for both riders and pillions to wear full faced helmets during the ride. The minimum quality of these helmets should be an ISI approval. Besides, they are allowed to bring only Royal Enfield motorcycles for their rides. Riding under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited and a big no-no.”

Riding bikes in India is becoming more of a common feature due to the increase in traffic and the bikes ability to weave in and out of traffic jams. It is very common for up to 5 people to be riding on a bike at one time in India, something that in Europe and America would land you in very hot water with the authorities.
