When people think of Goa, they tend to think of the north. The north of Goa is mainly where people go to party, however, there is the beautiful south. Its far more relaxed and some of the architecture is remarkable. With beautiful views of mangroves, dolphins and golden sandy beaches, Goa is the perfect place to go for a relaxing vacation.

North

If you like to party and have a wild time, the north of Goa is the perfect place for you. With late night raves and the majority of all nightclubs in Goa, this is the perfect place for younger people. The north boasts some rather unique attractions, such as the Anjuna markets.

With two versions, night and day, you will never run out of opportunities to buy all the trinkets, rugs and cut price spices that you want to take home. The day market sprawls for around 1km down a dusty, baked road. You can find everything here, from spices, clothes, CD’s, pashminas, fruit and all sorts of hand carved decorations.

The night market is equally exquisite in its own unique way. With live music most nights taking centre stage in the middle of the market, you can find traders from all over the globe who have set up stalls here. The markets in the north are truly breath-taking.

Known as the ""Queen of Beaches", Calangute is Goa's flagship beach. It is also the most commercialized of all beaches in Goa. Due to its extreme popularity, Calangute beach calls tourists and backpackers from all over the world. The beach remains choc-a-block with tourists all year around. The beach is dotted with shacks and a lot of the clubs open up onto the beach. There are lots of shows held on the beach including rock, pop beat shows, open air dances, and fetes.

South

The south of Goa is far more chilled out with miles and miles of undisturbed, golden beaches. This part of Goa is favoured by locals, as well as celebrities. Paul McCartney is known to spend time at the Leila Palace on Mobor Beach. The finest stretch of beach is that from Betalbatim all the way down to Betul. You will find no nicer stretch of beach anywhere in the world.

Dolphins are a frequent sighting in the build up to monsoon season as they swim up the Arabian coast of India.

If you love shopping do not fear. Only a short bus ride away, you will find the stunning hub city of Margao. Here you will find all the shops you could ever have wished for. With regular highstreets and an undercover flea market, you can find everything you need all in one place. Most of Goa’s government offices are here, as well as a reputable university.

On your way home from Margao, stop off in Cavelossim. Here you will find a serene beauty that is unmatched. Cavelossim is the very picture of relaxation, complete with black lava rocks, paddy fields and views of the River Sal. Luxurious spa hotels are your key to blissful escapism. Sprawl on the beach without a care in the world, unless you care about picking up handcrafted souvenirs and keepsakes, which you can do at Cavelossim’s impressive shopping arcade.
